Area of Activities
The Functions/Responsibilities of NIPS are focused on following areas of activities:-
I. Research Division
Undertake applied interdisciplinary and critical research in the areas of population and development, reproductive health and family planning.
Conduct research on population and development issues including cross-sectional linkage of population with education, health, economic development, environment and women's development and issues relating to mortality, ageing, mother and child care.
Analytical research on demographic factors/changes and produce district population profile, studies on socio-economic implication of population growth.
Developing a database on population and development. Carryout extensive monitoring of population related activities and programme both by the Population Welfare Division and Provincial Governments as well as other nation building Ministries/Department, private sector, social marketing, Taget Group Institutions (TGIs) and NGOs.
II. Monitoring and Evaluation Division
Undertake operations and evaluative research on various components of the Government's population welfare programme and for providing feedback to the government.
Carry out analytical and diagnostic studies on various issues affecting the population welfare programme.
Conducting exploratory studies to identify problems and test new approaches on reproductive health and family planning. Arrange collaborative studies with national/international organizations.
Collate data on demographic indicators and carry out evaluation studies.
Undertakes editing, printing and distribution of research reports produced by NIPS.
III. Human Resource Development
Undertake capacity building of research and training staff of NIPS through short and long terms training both in Pakistan and abroad. Organize training workshops, seminars and conferences on issues of population and development, including family planning and reproductive health for the personnel of the population welfare programme as well as National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) and Civil Society Organizations, under outsourcing arrangements. Develop human resources development and training in the field population and development and conduct short and long term training programme including certificate and diploma courses in collaboration with national and international organisations and universities.
