History of NIPS

The National Institute of Population Studies was established in 1986 as an autonomous organization, at Islamabad, Pakistan through a resolution of the Government of Pakistan to undertake population and development research and to provide feedback to the Government departments and agencies for planning, policy formulation in the sphere of population and development, pragmatic implementation and effective monitoring of Reproductive Health/Family Planning programs.

NIPS is set out to play a key role in the dynamics of national population and its complexities. Its canvas of activities is challengingly broad embracing socio-economic dimensions of a determined young nation. An autonomous organization with a Board of Governors and an Advisory Committee of experts, NIPS functions as a core institution for research, training, human resources development relating to population welfare and development.
